Jared tagged me for this book meme thing, so I figured I would put out one more post before my “hiatus.” Here are the rules:
- Pick up the nearest book (of at least 123 pages).
- Open the book to page 123.
- Find the fifth sentence.
- Post the next three sentences.
- Tag five people.
The book closest to me was Old Testament Parallels, but I really didn’t want to get any hits from people searching for what’s on those pages. Instead, the next book down the pile is A History of Ancient Israel and Judah by Miller and Hayes. Here’s the text:
The victorious army returned to Gilgal, where they reconfirmed Saul’s kingship and offered sacrifices to Yahweh. There were some who urged Saul to take vengeance now on those who had refused to support him initially but Saul declined to do so (1 Sam. 11).
Samuel addressed the people once again, emphasizing the integrity with which he had served as their leader and the folly of their determination to have a king.
