Idea Log

One of the best pieces of advice from David Allen’s Getting Things Done is to get things out of your head and onto paper.  If you decide to do something, like mow the lawn, your mind thinks you should be doing right now.  Your mind, Mr. Allen says, does not know the difference between present [...]

Humility

I don’t know how I let this get by me, but check it out if you want.  If you don’t, that’s fine, it kind of sucks and I only spent a few minutes on it.  (I’m such a good self-promoter.)

Writing Blog

I closed down my writing blog and moved all of the posts over here.  Most of them are available under the tag “writing“.

You Must Read This

No, not this post, this article on the proper use of apostrophes.  Please pass it along to your friends, especially those who write things like “Pray for the Frizzell’s.”  If there is any justice, there is a special place in the afterlife for those people (they probably send forwards, too).

Writing Software

Finished!

After six months and a lot of hard work, I finally finished my first novel.  It came in at just about 60,000 words but I expect the second draft will be 75,000.

My Shoddy Train Collection

A post on fear at my writing blog.

I mean, even with the Parable of the Prodigal Son, you get to the ending and you think, Well, did the big brother come in or [...]

Writer’s Digest Writing Competition

So I’m thinking about submitting a story to the Writer’s Digest writing competition (worst website ever, by the way).  Is there anyone who has any info on this?  Is it just another scam or is it a real contest?  Am I just wasting my money?  Should I just stick with the Writer’s of the Future?
